1977: PhD in Physics and Mathematics from Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI), Moscow
1991: Degree of Doctor of Science in Physics and Mathematics from Computing Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences
1975 - 1995: Employed by TsAGI, starting as Junior Research Scientist and progressing to Head of Department of Gas Dynamics
1978 - 1995: Teaching at MPhPI, first as Associate Professor and then (1993 - 1995) as Professor in the Department of Theoretical Aerohydrodynamics
1995 - 2008: Chair in Computational Fluid Dynamics, University of Manchester, School of Mathematics
2008 - present: Chair in Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Physics, Imperial College London, Department of Mathematics
