Summary

This book lays out challenges faced by cities in developing countries in managing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. It proposes strategies for sustainable urban energy and emissions planning (SUEEP) and development. Based on studies undertaken in three pilot cities-Cebu City (the Philippines), Da Nang (Vietnam), and Surabaya (Indonesia), it presents a SUEEP framework which is designed to facilitate collaboration between municipal governments and stakeholders, develop capacity-building programs to strengthen energy governance and maximize energy efficiency across municipal sectors, and help define actions and prioritize investments in energy efficient infrastructure.
