Summary

This book comprises the proceedings of the 'Cold Gas at High Redshift' workshop, held in Hoogeveen, The Netherlands on 28-30 August 1995. The workshop brought together astronomers from many different backgrounds, from theoreticians to observers working in all wavebands, leading to a comprehensive overview of the current observational and theoretical status of the field. The proceedings include reviews of extensive observational and theoretical work on the topic of cold gas and dust at high redshift, along with presentations of the latest results from new instruments. Topics covered include: protoclusters and clusters, cosmic evolution of the gas content of galaxies, damped Lyman alpha systems and the Lyman alpha forest, ultraluminous IRAS galaxies, dust emission at high redshift, numerical simulations of the cosmic evolution of gas and dust, the cool interstellar medium in distant radio galaxies and molecular absorption towards distant radio sources. A section of the proceedings is also dedicated to future instrumentation which will have a major impact on the field, ranging from sub-mm and mm arrays to large area radio arrays.
